Alumni and Student Profiles

Jeremy Murdock

Jeremy Murdock

Jeremy Murdock is one of a handful of students to have completed both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in landscape architecture at MSU. As if that weren’t enough, the university also hired him after he finished the MLA degree in 2007. Jeremy was originally employed as part of the Mississippi Community Action Team (MSCAT), which has now become part of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development. As a Research Associate at the Stennis Institute, Jeremy works with Mississippi communities on a variety of projects related to downtown revitalization, economic development, and design. He plays an important role in educating Mississippi communities about design and planning and their relation to quality of life.

Jeremy has also been very involved in his local community. He serves as a commissioner on Starkville’s Planning and Zoning Commission, a board member of the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and the chairman of the Starkville Main Street Design Committee. In recent years he has also served on the City of Starkville’s Beautification Committee, as well as a board member of Starkville in Motion and the Starkville Area Arts Council. As if that weren’t enough, he also is an avid photographer and has for several years sold his work at the Cotton District Arts Festival. He uses his photography to showcase the unique people and places of Mississippi. Most recently Murdock's focus has been on the special culture and character of the Mississippi Delta.

Since he began working at MSU, Jeremy has maintained his involvement in the Department of Landscape Architecture through guest lectures and studio critiques and most recently through his involvement in Professor Taze Fulford’s Design III studio course that worked with the town of Leland, MS (see link for more info). We caught up with Jeremy to find out more about his job at the Stennis Institute, the project in Leland, and why he just can’t get enough of MSU.
