Discover a Career-Ready Education in Landscape Architecture

At Mississippi State University, our nationally accredited programs in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Contracting and Management prepare students for creative, rewarding careers that shape the built and natural environment. With hands-on learning, real-world internships, strong job placement rates, and access to scholarships and professional guidance, our students graduate ready to make an impact—whether they design public spaces, manage sustainable landscapes, or launch their own firms. Explore what makes our programs a smart choice for students and families planning for the future.

Accredited Degree Programs

The Bachelor's of Landscape Architecture (BLA) program is proudly accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB)—and it's the only accredited BLA program in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Accreditation means quality, and we're committed to transparency. View our public program information here.

Our Landscape Contracting and Management degree is also nationally recognized, accredited by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP).

Scholarships Made Simple

At MSU, applying for scholarships is easy. One application covers university, college, and departmental scholarships. Log in to myState, head to the Financial Aid and Scholarships section under the Banner tab, and submit or revise the General Scholarship Application.

Technology & Supplies

Students are required to have their own laptop. Before buying, check our computer requirements to make sure your system is ready for design software like Lumion and GIS tools. Computer costs range from $1,500 to over $4,500, depending on features. Materials and supplies will cost approximately $300. Additional required software includes SketchUp at a cost of $55 per year and Adobe Suites, available through the university for $10-$12 per month. Other software commonly used, including GIS and AutoCad, are provided at no charge through the university.

Understanding Course Fees

Some courses include additional fees to cover essential learning experiences like urban design field trips, professional printing, and equipment maintenance. While not every class has a fee, the total averages just over $3,000 across four years. View the detailed fee schedule here.

Real-World Experience

Hands-on learning is a key part of our programs.

  • Landscape Architecture majors complete one internship for course credit.
  • Landscape Contracting students complete three internships during their degree.

Internship experiences vary, and costs for housing, transportation, and living will depend on location and opportunity.

Licensure Pathways

Our department includes five licensed faculty members who guide students on the path to professional licensure. Graduates of our accredited programs are eligible to take the licensure exam, though specific requirements may vary by state.

Strong Career Outcomes

Our graduates leave prepared—and employed. According to MSU Career Center’s First Destination Survey:
